Strengthening Ethiopia’s Response to Tuberculosis Through Laboratory Networks

A four-day training was conducted in Shaggar City under the U.S. supported Urban TB LON II Project to strengthen Ethiopia’s laboratory specimen transportation and referral system. Organized with the Shaggar City Health Office and Fiche Public Health Research and Referral Laboratory, the program aimed to improve specimen handling, referral, and result reporting in support of the national TB response. A total of 27 laboratory professionals and 17 couriers received hands-on training on GeneXpert TB diagnostics and addressed challenges such as transport delays and supply shortages. The initiative is expected to enhance diagnostic efficiency, expand access to quality TB services, and improve patient outcomes through faster, more reliable results.
