Rapid Response Mechanism Strengthens Aid & Healthcare Delivery in Ethiopia
A multi-donor supported Rapid Response Mechanism in Ethiopia is significantly improving the speed and coordination of emergency humanitarian assistance across multiple sectors. Backed by the European Union, Irish Aid, and Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the initiative—implemented by the International Rescue Committee and 12 partner NGOs—responded to 48 out of 60 emergency alerts across eight regions, reaching over 555,500 people with shelter, health, water, sanitation, and essential relief support. Response times have been reduced from up to six weeks to just 6–7 days, with immediate assistance delivered within 15 days of alerts. Pre positioned supplies for over 133,300 people and additional emergency resources have further strengthened readiness and rapid deployment. With EUR 13.5 million in funding, the mechanism highlights how coordinated systems and preparedness investments can improve large-scale humanitarian response and reduce the impact of sudden crises.
