Guyya Medical Equipment and Supplies PLC began in 2020 as a textile manufacturer in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a commitment to quality and community well-being. Seeing the urgent need for protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic, we shifted our focus to medical supplies, starting with the production of medical face masks. This quick transition allowed us to answer the country’s call for reliable, locally-produced protective equipment.

Guyya Medical contributed 5 million face masks to support the Addis Ababa City Administration’s COVID-19 response for vulnerable students. The effort was acknowledged during an official city event attended by Deputy Mayor Jantar Abay and senior Addis Ababa officials.
During a special event at Sheraton Addis on Pagume 4, 2012 EC, Guyya Medical’s CEO, Mr. Mubarak Kemal, received a certificate of appreciation from H.E. Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia, recognizing Guyya’s outstanding contributions to public health and social development.
At Hilton Addis Ababa, Guyya Manufacturing PLC pledged 1% of its mask sales profits to student welfare and 1% to the GERD initiative, totalling 2%. The commitment was formalized in an agreement signed with the Social Trust Fund and represented by Mr. Mubarak Kemal and Mrs. Petite Negash.
Guyya Medical donated 40,000 locally made face masks in three colors to support Ethiopia’s COVID-19 response. Health Minister Dr. Lia Tadesse publicly acknowledged the contribution, highlighting Guyya’s commitment to frontline workers and local health solutions.
Guyya Medical donated 12,000 face masks to St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College, reinforcing our commitment to frontline protection and national health. The initiative reflected our dedication to equipping healthcare workers with essential PPE during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Guyya Medical donated face masks to the Addis Ababa Youth Federation. Mr. Gezahegn Gebremariam, the Federation’s President, stated the masks would support youth volunteers working in hospitals, including those in prison healthcare units, as part of a broader public health effort.
Guyya Textile Manufacturing launched 15 days after setup. At the opening, State Minister of Health, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Dr. Dereje Duguma, Addis Ababa Health Bureau Head Dr. Yohannes Chala, Kolfe Sub-City CEO Mr. Adam Nuri and religious leader Ustaz Abubakar Ahmed toured the facility, where the CEO pledged 70,000 masks to support national COVID-19 response institutions.

Our pledge? 5 million face masks—with 5,000 packets already delivered—and 1% of our sales proceeds donated for a full year, starting September 11, 2020. Supporting Hearts, Saving Lives
Guyya Textile Manufacturing proudly partnered with AlephTav Consultancy to support the Children’s Heart Fund of Ethiopia (CHFE), a non-profit that’s provided free cardiac care to over 9,500 children. Through our donation of 15,000 surgical masks, sold at a fundraising event, we helped raise vital funds for life-saving treatments while promoting COVID-19 safety.
