Ethiopia Calls for Fair, Country-Led Global Health Financing at WEF 2026
At the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos, Ethiopia’s Finance Minister Ahmed Shide urged global leaders to adopt a fair, predictable, and country-led health financing system. He highlighted Ethiopia’s use of innovative tools such as pooled SDG funding, co-financing models, and investments in local pharmaceutical production to strengthen health systems. The minister also stressed that the African Continental Free Trade Area can drive job creation, especially for youth and women, through stronger regional value chains. Ethiopia reaffirmed its support for the “One Plan, One Budget, One Report” approach to ensure equity and accountability in global health cooperation.
