Ethiopia Deploys Drones to Deliver Life-Saving Medicines and Vaccines in Marburg Virus Response
Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health has begun delivering life-saving medicines and vaccines by drone to Marburg virus–at-risk areas, starting in Dassanech Woreda in the Southern region. The initiative, in partnership with INSA and the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Service, reduces delivery time from hours to minutes, overcoming the challenges of remote and difficult terrain. This marks a milestone in using domestic technology for epidemic response, demonstrating enhanced capacity to prevent and control outbreaks. Plans are underway to expand drone-assisted medical deliveries to other regions, strengthening rapid-response health infrastructure.
