Ethiopia, US Sign $1.6 Billion Health Deal to Strengthen Care System Through 2030
Ethiopia and the United States have signed a $1.6 billion health cooperation framework to support the country’s health sector from 2026 to 2030, with US contributing $1.16 billion and Ethiopia funding the balance domestically. The agreement prioritizes HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria control, maternal and child health, and pandemic preparedness while strengthening medicine supply and domestic health financing. The deal comes amid widening humanitarian funding gaps, with agencies warning that millions of women and children remain at risk from preventable diseases. Officials say the framework is designed to address immediate pressures while building long term resilience in Ethiopia’s health care system.
