Ethiopia Expands Rural Healthcare Access Through Upgraded Comprehensive Health Posts

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health is expanding access to quality primary healthcare by upgrading rural health posts into comprehensive health posts, improving care delivery in underserved communities.
These upgraded facilities now offer essential services such as antenatal care, deliveries, outpatient treatment, child immunizations, and nutrition support, staffed by trained professionals and stocked with critical medicines. With support from John Snow, Inc. (JSI) and Amref Health Africa under a Gates Foundation-funded project, 25 health posts have been transformed
since 2022, serving tens of thousands of clients.

The initiative has significantly enhanced patient experience, built community trust, and demonstrated the potential for sustainable healthcare improvements in remote regions.
